Campaign

Our joint aim with the NHS is to teach children effective brushing and to instil good dental hygiene habits that will last a lifetime, so reducing problems over very many years.

NHS England has selected our organisation, At Home Dental, to deliver the supervised toothbrushing programme for children in Early Years settings across the Southwest.

Nearly one in four five-year-olds in the Southwest has dental decay, and those rates are significantly higher in certain areas.  As you will know, dental problems can lead to absence from school for toothache, associated dental appointments or for surgery. Tooth extraction is the leading reason for hospitalisation among children in this age group.

We are working with schools to offer supervised toothbrushing for children every day.  As part of this, we invite children to join our Big Brush Club and we provide full online training materials for a member of staff to supervise the brushing session, which lasts for just 5 minutes.

Our joint aim with the NHS is to teach children effective brushing and to instil good dental hygiene habits that will last a lifetime, so reducing problems over very many years. Oral health has a significant impact on wider health, with those in more deprived communities disproportionately affected.

We are therefore delighted and excited to have this opportunity to deliver this prevention programme, which will have such clear benefits for children and their families.
